We at ‘home plate’ have reviewed many coaches' training courses, and with ASEP’s 25 years of sport education experience, we are confident the program offered by ASEP is the premier coaching education program in the market today.

ASEP, in conjunction with Babe Ruth League Inc. and Ripken Baseball Inc., is designing an online coaching course specifically for Babe Ruth Baseball, Cal Ripken Baseball, and Babe Ruth Softball managers and coaches. Once this program is complete, ASEP will provide administrative support—test processing, database management, course documentation—which will make the job of tracking our coaches’ certifications a snap.

At Babe Ruth League Inc., we feel there is no one single action that can have more of a positive impact on our players than improving the quality and knowledge of our managers and coaches. Every manager and coach has an obligation to provide players with the best instruction and leadership possible. It is a fact that the managers and coaches are the ones who spend the most time interacting with the players and are the ones who can make a child’s experience in youth sports fun and memorable. This is the driving force behind Babe Ruth League's partnership with the American Sport Education Program.

I couldn’t be more excited that Ripken Baseball is partnering with the Babe Ruth League and the American Sport Education Program to develop an online coaching education program for the nearly 200,000 volunteer coaches in all divisions of Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball.

We established Ripken Baseball in 1999 with the mission of growing the game of baseball worldwide … The Ripken Way. Since then we have instructed thousands of players in hundreds of cities all over the country. A few years ago we realized that we could spread our message even more efficiently by holding youth baseball coaching clinics and creating instructional products such as books and videos.

This partnership with the Babe Ruth League and ASEP will allow us to arm even more coaches with the resources that they need to make the game better for even more youth baseball players.

Volunteer coaches are the lifeblood of our sport. If a kid’s first experience with the game of baseball is a positive one, the chances are much higher that he or she will fall in love with the game and stick with it.

If we can educate more coaches about how to teach the game of baseball properly as well as how to make it fun, safe, and exciting for the kids, we will have much more success increasing participation and retaining young athletes. For these reasons and for the betterment of the overall sport experience, we are requiring that all of the Babe Ruth League’s coaches successfully complete a coaching education program.

I have been talking about the need for an organized, effective youth coaching education program for many years, so it is rewarding to finally develop a partnership that can make it happen. It’s really exciting to know that young baseball players everywhere will be exposed to our methods of instruction and to partner with two organizations that are so respected in their fields.
